Construction file version history for when two teams open different drawings.
The installer has Permit Set FINAL. The owner has Permit Set FINAL-2. Both files were downloaded from links that still work. Construction file version history should make the current drawing obvious while keeping the older copy and the reason it changed.
The mess this fixes
Where this breaks in real life
Adding approved, revised, new, or final to a filename does not retire the earlier file. Old links keep circulating, and nobody can tell whether a revision fixed a typo or moved a wall. The team loses time comparing PDFs before it can even discuss the actual change.

The fix
What to change
Replace the file in its existing project record, add one plain sentence about the revision, and let the history keep the earlier version. Send reviewers back to the project record so the current file and its change note travel together.
Do it in this order
- 01
Keep one file identity
Replace the project file instead of creating a trail of nearly identical names.
- 02
Explain the revision
Add a useful note so the next reviewer understands what changed and why.
- 03
Check what changed
Open version history when somebody asks which drawing they used or why it changed.
What should be easier afterward
- A clear current file with earlier versions retained
- Revision notes beside upload history
- Nobody has to decode FINAL, FINAL2, and FINAL-v7

Questions people ask before using it
Does replacing a file delete the old version?
The prior version remains in the file's history so authorized users can review the sequence instead of losing the record.
Does version history prove a drawing is approved?
No. It proves the file history. Approval and coordination still depend on the responsible project parties and their process.
